We are going camping tomorrow. Not real, outback, pee-in-the-woods camping -- oh, god, I don't know that I ever want that -- but camping in the quad between several buildings of the large tech firm my husband works for here in Silicon Valley. We will bring our own food to grill (yay, I don't have to eat anything that had a mother!) and have a campfire with marshmallow roasting, etc. Then we will retire to our tents in an urban oasis. In the morning there will be doughnuts to eat (my kids are doughnut junkies) and there is a kid-friendly nature hike from 9-11.
I am looking forward to it only because my boys will absolutely LOVE it and it is a dry run for me, since we are contemplating a couple of camping trips before it gets too cold out. (Yes, my midwestern friends, I know how "California" I sound. Oh well. It gets cold here -- it's all in what you're used to.)
For the record, I am not a vegetarian, so I am allowed to eat marshmallows. I just prefer not to eat meat for the most part. It's not a political statement, just my own preference.
