School has started!

Yesterday was the first day of school. Garrett is in 3rd grade and has 2 teachers who alternate days. I have heard good things about them, so am happy so far -- except he currently has 33 kids in his class. they will be doing some shuffling and there is a possibility that any of the kids could be reassigned to another classroom, but I hope he stays put and they can get class sizes down under 30. Uff da!

His partner for part of the day yesterday was the oldest of the 3 boys in the family whose house we rented last year. too funny. He said Marc was a nice kid, so I was glad about that.

Evan was fine in 1st grade. He was very happy and excited to go to school all day, and he was thrilled to carry his lunch bag. He made a new friend, Emery (isn't that an awesome name?), and has several kids from his k'garten class in 1st grade so that was nice. One poor little girl was new to the school and cried a lot. Evan tried to be nice to her but he said she was so sad he never even got her name. I hope it goes better for her today.

I spent yesterday afternoon filling out paperwork -- emergency numbers, etc. Last year I had to use neighbors for contacts because we really didn't know anyone, but this year I had no problem coming up with 3 names. I was also glad to update their records with Dr.'s name, dentist's name, and their medical insurance numbers. I didn't have any of that last year, either.

Spence and I had a snack at McDonald's yesterday -- he had an orange juice and 2 chocolate chip cookies, I had a Diet Coke and the last cookie. He seems ok but it's only day 2. Soon he will be asking for the big brothers who annoy him. Right now he's happy because no one is turning the TV from "The Wiggles" to "Double Dare." It's hard to be the littlest, so I am glad he's got things HIS way for now.

  1. It seems so weird that kids start so late in some part of the country. Michael is already into week 2. They moved some kids around and he got a new teacher when the class size was over 25. He started in his new first grade class yesterday and he only has 20 kids in there. Yeah! I hope they get Garrett's down. That is too many third graders in one room.
