Fun weekend!

Friday we saw the movie at school. The kids had a blast, and I even enjoyed myself in spite of the stupid movie. Maybe I should not be this way, but I hate it when someone takes a perfectly good story from a book and changes it to make a movie. The book is ALWAYS better.

Saturday we went to the beach. It was cloudy all day, but not too cool, and as Rob said, the worst day at the beach is still better than the best day landlocked. Too true, and we are already feeling like the end of this little assignment is coming too fast, so more beach days to come, I'm sure.

Saturday night we had a *babysitter* -- again! Twice in one week, I think a new record for us. Jennifer came over and Rob and I had dinner out with a bunch of friends. Good times. We were at an old bar and grill type place that reminded us of North Dakota -- so I ordered a Colorado Bulldog. Ya can't drink wine in a place like that. We had fun and were still home before 10. LOL I guess we're getting old.

Sunday was church. It was a lay-led service and the sermon was about baseball. This whole "Baseball as a metaphor for life" thing just doesn't work for me. I HATE baseball. I just don't see the point of a bunch of people standing around on a field waiting for one guy to throw a little ball so another guy can hit it with a stick and run around. BOR-ing. Honestly, I'd rather be trimming my toenails. Whatever.

After church we went to the Youth Science Institute for a Wildlife Festival. The highlight of the afternoon was a falconry demonstration. The guy must do Renaissance Fairs because he was dressed perfectly and spoke with a killer Scottish accent. Ahhhh, sends shivers up my spine just thinking about it. Anyway, the show was fun, the kids learned a lot and picked up all kinds of goodies (plastic rulers, magnets, water bottles and the like), and it tired them all out so we gave them a quick dinner, got some groceries, and bathed and put them to bed by 8 so that my TV time could start.

There will be another post about this soon, but I am appalled at myself this year. Usually I allow myself one TV show additction per year. It has been "The West Wing" for quite some time. It's the world I escape to when Dubya's world becomes too much for me to handle. THIS year, though, Sunday night finds me in front of the set for 3 HOURS straight -- WW, Desperate Housewives, and Grey's Anatomy. After all those years of complaining about the fact that Sunday night TV featured nothing more than the latest cheesy movie of the week starring Valerie Bertinelli or Victoria Principal as an abused wife/mother of a child with the disease of the month/crime victim who fights back, my cup runneth over.

So how was your weekend???

The two little ones got ear infections, but of course we had to take Thomas twice before he was diagnosed, and even then it was "it looks like it could be coming" but the UC doc took pity on me after two sleepless nights! Both are way better now though so water under the bridge. My in-laws are coming though, so we spent the rest of the weekend cleaning. Sigh.
