Freakonomics, Turkey, and Xmas decorations

My book group is reading this as an "extra" this month. I got it this afternoon and I finished it in about an hour and a half. What an AMAZING work of thought and logic it is. Remarkable.

We had a nice Turkey Day yesterday. The weather was pretty nice and while I cooked, Rob and the boys were out in the yard for a good while, tossing around a baseball and bonding over various other pieces of sporting equipment.

I didn't make all the snacky, appetizery things on my menu (just way too much food), but we had a nice meal, not too fattening but yummy, and no one ate so much they had to be rolled from the table. AND my lovely husband did the dishes while I took a nap after dinner. Nice.

After cleanup the boys all played Mousetrap and when I woke up we hung out and watched the Peanuts Thanksgiving Special. It is SO fun to see my kids amused by those specials, since they were some of my faves as a kid. Soon it will betime for Rudolph and the Grinch. I can't get enough of those.

Tomorrow I think we'll pull out the Xmas decorations and get started on that. Since I am hosting a Christmas Cookie Exchange I feel like I need to get things rolling a little. No Christmas lights outdoors this year, though -- last year's December electric bill was $500!!!!

Hope your weekend is as lazy and lovely as mine has been thus far. I have far too many memories of people being pissed off at holidays (often with me, but more often at *everybody*), so I love these quiet, intimate holidays with just me and my boys.

Now my DH is commenting on the "cohesive thoughts" I'm putting into my blog entry. Hmmm ... guess no one told him that A) it's a blog -- it doesn't have to be cohesive, and B) he should read my bio at left and get his own damn blog if he wants to criticize.

At any rate, I hope the beginning of the holiday season was a good one for you. I am off to bed.

  1. Glad that you all had a great day. Whew, that is some expensive light bill. Can you do the light and just plug them in for a couple of hours every night? Put them on a timer?
