Would somebody PLEASE

stop me when I decide to start refinishing furniture?

I have a super-cool blond bedroom set from the late 50s. It is beautifully made, with dovetailed joints and real wood.

But the blond had to go. (I'm a redhead. We clashed.)

So in my garage right now is the 6 drawer dresser, stripped *almost* naked. There is a ton of sawdust all over the inside of the garage (which is also my laundry room ... crazy-ass Californians). I am a mess, my garage is a mess, my bedroom is a mess because all of my clothes are in laundry baskets on the floor ...

Yuck.

Wish me luck, progress, and quick work with the tack-rags. I hate those things.

Pictures at the end of the nightmare....

Jennifer asks an important question- Why is the laundry room (in about 90% of California homes) in the garage? I think the answer lies with the crazy-ass Californians who have--- What did someone from the midwest say? ---360 days of sunshine a year????? The theory being that with so much sunshine you should be outside: swimming in the ocean, mingling with Hollywood stars, going to Disneyland, and NOT doing the laundry.

  2. You mean they don't have mud rooms or seperate laundry? Oh, that would be hard to get used to.

The project will look beautiful when you are done. I am sure of it. Everything you do looks wonderful.

    I love the song.

  4. You think the garage is bad? In the house I lived in before this one, my laundry room (by which I mean washer and drier) used to be on the PORCH. Not a closed in porch either. At least it was the back porch. So I guess I earned the laundry room I now have in my house.

  5. What's wrong with laungry in the garage? In our old house the laungry was next to the master bedroom and the previous owner moved it to the garage which made more sense to me. That's the only thing I'm used to.

  6. You are one brave woman. I could never begin a project while the kids are on spring break.

I think the biggest problem in your furniture refinishing is that you began it during spring break...so now you have all that extra "help" around. Silly girl! Persevere...it will look great when it's all done and you can kick back and admire your handiwork!

Sure am glad the laundry room here is NOT in the garage, since the garage is a hienous mess and is often very cold. I would be very unlikely to go out there and do it and winter in MN is no time to be nekkid. I think it might be an evolutionary thing as to why we have "laundry rooms" here. Also...don't most homes in CA lack basements? So...couldn't go there, gotta be in the garage then.
