Read this editorial, please.

Flag Burning

I agree with it -- and I hope those of you who do not will ponder, cogitate, and mull on it before pronouncing it idiocy.

Thank you.

Okay--- tried the link - but couldn't get connected.
I would really like to read the editorial. Honestly, I can't support flag burning. But am open to a dialogue on the topic. In what senario is it acceptable to patriotic Americans?

This is (as the article mentions) yet another one of those rile the base issues that is really a non-issue. I chalk it up there with gay marriage ammendments. My diocese spent $$ on a postcard campaign to legislators to support a gay marriage amendment here. I think this is a hugely silly waste of the church's money because even if the state allows gay marriage the Catholic church still won't so what the hell difference does it really make? Perhaps that's to simple?

Here, same issue. A recent letter to the editor I read lauded the legislature for getting so much done, solving so many pressing issues like health care, getting out of Iraq, education, etc. that they could now turn to these pressing issues. Frankly though I don't know what is more sad...that the legislators do this or that the people really rally behind them doing it.

Thanks for fixing the link....read the story. All makes sense. Just another example of the legistature wasting time on a "non-issue." Does anyone watch the Daily Show with Jon Stewart? Was watching a couple of days ago... totally hilarious bit about the Senate debating "the dangers of video games!" Really? That's what they are wasting their time/our time talking about!!!!!!!!! Makes you wanna scream!!!

We have a mess in Iraq that stinks of another VietNam; our roads and bridges are in disrepair; Katrina victims are still in "hell"; the east coast is experiencing record flooding (just to mention a few problems)- what do our legislators worry about? Making sure marriage is between a woman and a man and the pressing issue of burning the flag!!!! Time to clean house and send all of them home with no pension and a good luck wish in finding a job because none of them know how to work or think!! Mom

  5. While I in principle do not agree with flag burning--I would never do it--I believe that the right to do it should be there. I have said it before, freedom of speech is available to everyone, not just smart people!

  6. I agree 100%. The amendment is unnecessary.
