Has always been my favorite holiday. No stress, no preparation, no obligations (like church, for instance), a clean slate of a brand new year lies ahead. I love a day where doing nothing is what you're supposed to do. New Year's Day in my childhood conjures up memories of bitter cold, bright sunny days building snow forts in the back yard (okay, yeah, well that was my brother building them, but I watched. Through a window. Yeah.) I do remember ice skating on an outdoor rink, drinking Diet Coke and blazing through the books I got for Christmas, snuggling with my dog in a cozy afghan in my beanbag chair. Nice.
Today (actually the weekend) has been a time for me to get my house back together. I am not a happy camper when it's a mess, and priorities were such in December that very little cleaning was accomplished. I handled it well (even my husband says so) but it is OVER now. Time for the mess to go away and me to feel in control of my home and my life again.
I got the fireplace mantel cleaned up, arranged, and *dusted* (this is key, people) and 2 out of 3 floors of the house have been vacuumed. I even got my wonderful husband to hang some pictures that have been frameless for months. A Wal-Mart gift card allowed me to procure the frames (which are just what I wanted), and he got them up on the wall of our bedroom yesterday.
Nice, huh? The wave is a print I got on Catalina Island that I was incapable of walking away from. The 3 frames are my darling sons.
And THIS is the post where I make a list of To-Do's for myself. Just to keep me honest. I am not setting a deadline for myself, but I will get these sewing projects done:
* valance and curtains for one window of Master Bedroom
* bathrobe for Garrett
* bathrobe for Evan
* bathrobe for Spencer
* table skirts for scrap room
* trim on 70" round tablecloth
Soon. I promise.
Don't be too hard on yourself. Enjoy this new year! Make it a great one.
