Apparently that's what it takes

Every Wednesday Garrett's teacher lists all assignments that will be checked in Thursday morning on the classroom white board. The next morning if all assignments are turned in a blue slip is issued to the student. If assignments are missing, they get an orange slip. Both slips require a parent's signature and have to be turned in to the teacher.

We saw a LOT of orange slips this year. At conference time this spring we decided desperate measures were in order. What I didn't know was the incentive my husband would decide to offer without discussing it with me.

A Wii. Yep, IBM collaborated with Nintendo on this one and Rob, having played it a few times, decided THAT was the incentive for blue slips.

The challenge was issued: there are 10 weeks left of school. You must receive 8 blue slips or there will be no Wii this year.

The 8th blue slip was procured Wednesday (with a week left to spare) and the Wii was purchased this morning.

So we know what motivates this child. Clearly.

Now I just have to make sure I have a system in place so that our lives are not lived in a completely digital world. *Sigh.* It had to happen eventually, I guess. I just wish I had been consulted at the beginning.....

Love the WII! We got one right after Christmas and have not been able to have more fun anywhere else. Making MII's are so much fun. Boxing helps get all your aggression out. (Should be put in all Marriage Counselors programs.) We have a house rule you are not allowed to sit if you are playing the WII. We have been having WII parties after school. Best electronic anyone could have ever made.

  2. Jennifer and Rob, when you get it all setup let us know what your code is and I will give you ours so we can have our mii's travel. Also, I have got ours setup as a media center to play music and video from the pc

  3. Great story - but don't you sometimes wish someone would hold out a carrot for us hard working moms who - with increasing frequency- are UNmotivated to do housework or cook dinner? I mean, I think I might work a little harder if my husband said to me, "If you cook dinner 5 times this week, I'll get you a diamond tennis bracelet."
