We got back from a quick trip to Chicago last night. My friend Kris started chemo on the 14th and a bunch of her fabulous, wonderful, kind and generous friends threw her a party to show their love and support. The hosts, Alexis and Lennox, have a lovely home and are just so welcoming and lovely. Truly terrific people. So we drove down Saturday, checked into the hotel, changed clothes (and I applied makeup -- will wonders never cease?) and went to the party. Garrett was camping with friends but Evan and Spence came along. They hung out for a half hour or so with Marly, our babysitter, and then Rob took them back to the hotel for a movie night so we could hang out and enjoy ourselves.
Kris was SO surprised. I hate surprises myself -- I suppose it's that whole lack of control thing -- but I love to surprise other people. Not really fair, is it?
Anyway, Kris was pleasantly surprised, I think, and Rob and I got a chance to reconnect with some of her other friends. We hadn't seen Kim and Chris in a LONG time, so it was great to see them, too.
I am so glad she has such a terrific community around her.
