So I am on Coumadin for that blood clot I had. And despite upping my dosage last week, my blood thinness level is not what it should be (i.e. it is too thick). So I ask the nurse, could it be the frozen edamame that I eat as a snack almost every night?
I had searched the internet awhile ago and found a chart listing the nutrients in edamame -- and Vitamin K, which thickens the blood, was not listed. So I figured it was not at a level that would affect my meds and proceeded to eat about 1/2 a cup every other night or so.
Alas, the nurse confirms they are high in potassium, as I found when I dug just a little further into the web.
It isn't a problem, they just want to keep the level right. So I'll up the Coumadin and keep eating the edamame. Live and learn, right?
ETA: Vitamin K and potassium are 2 entirely different things. I stand corrected. As I said, live and learn.
Vitamin K isn't potassium. K is the chemical symbol for potassium, but that's the only connection.
