Garrett's team is the Astros. They played a good game Saturday. At this stage of Little League, they play for an hour and forty-five minutes. No worries about innings, runs, etc. Just the kids having fun and learning the game.
I know it's annoying to those of you who are in actual cold climates, but it was *cold* out there! There were people in winter jackets with lap blankets on to stay warm. (Okay, like 50 degrees F. Not freezing, but pretty chilly when you're just sitting around...)
Here's Garrett, playing "pitcher." They have a pitching machine but there's always a kid playing pitcher for fielding practice. They rotate positions every inning.
And here he is up at bat. The first time this kid held a bat (at about 20 months old), he hit almost every pitch and knocked many out of our yard entirely. (Californians, our yard in Minnesota is equal to 3 or 4 yards out here.) The first time he was up he hit the ball but some good fielders on the White Sox got him out. The second time he made it to first base and ended up scoring his first ever run. Nice.
We had a good time, although I still think baseball is boring as hell. (Don't tell Garrett...)
It was cold this weekend for baseball. I am glad that he is enjoying it.
ReplyDeleteThat's usually the temp we play soccer (out there on the prairie behind the house) in and I'll agree that it's mighty chilly when you're just watching. I wear gloves and a coat for that.
ReplyDeleteSlugger looks cute! :)
YEAH GARRETT! Your great grandpa Don, I know, is SO PROUD of you -baseball was truly one of the loves of his life and I'm certain his favorite place in heaven is with all the famous baseball players. He would have been so happy to come to see you play baseball. Love, Grandma Carol
