26 Miles Across the Sea .... Santa Catalina is a-waitin' for me....

I tried to include the song I stole the title from but I am clueless and Blogger is being uncooperative. Shout out to The Four Preps, anyway. I love that song. (It's on iTunes, just search 26 Miles.)
This is a shot from up on a hill overlooking the harbor in Avalon, the little town on Santa Catalina Island.

This is Holly House, a shot from town looking up. This is near where the first photo was taken.

Here is a look from the hill opposite Holly House.

We rented a six-person electric car (a glorified golf cart) to tour the island. It was really fun!

Here is Spencer looking out an arched opening to the harbor. Pretty, no?

Just a picture of a palm tree so you get the tropical feeling.

The island is covered with all these beautiful tiles -- just incredible. This fountain is in a pedestrian shopping area and is right on the waterfront.

They have these boats that look like subs on top but are glass below so you sit underwater surrounded by ocean life. There are these fab orange fish called Garibaldi that are all over the place. (Aside: go figure, they are the official "marine fish" of California. Learn somethin' new every day.)We didn't take this tour, but it was tempting. I thought maybe my clautrophobia would get to me -- I kept remembering the submarines they used to have at Disneyland and how I did NOT like them!

Here is Evan posing with the Casino in the background. It is not a gambling casino, but is so named because casino is Italian for something like, "A place of entertainment." At any rate, several passengers from our boat were mightily disappointed there was no gambling. *roll eyes* My god, you come to a place like this and you want to sit in front of a slot machine? Pathetic, if you ask me.

This is a detail shot of the Casino. It is an Art Deco building with more incredible tile work and is still a functioning movie theater. In the "good ol' days" all the big bands played there. Awesome.

And a shot of Rob and I. Had to lighten it a bit and tighten it up, but I think Garrett did a pretty good job, don't you?

Tomorrow ... LA.
