More yardwork...

Here is our wonderful parklike back yard.
We spent most of the day out there again. I got most of our crazy overgrown hedges straightened out. Trouble is they look sort of bare now, but I have faith that once they get some sun and the barren formerly inside branches start sprouting new growth they will look great. Still some work to be done there, but they are much better. Also got the back yard edging done, seeded some bare spots in the back, added a couple of small pots to the rock bed on the north side of the garage (where we will add trellises and some climbing plants to soften the lines a bit). No pictures of that because we took a big bird feeder out of the back and it is laying in the rock bed right now. Helloooooo Freecycle!
There is new grass coming in out in the front yard, and we found some really awesome burgundy pots for plants that will go in the rock beds in front once I figure out something they can sit on to give them the height they need. They are huge and they were only $15 each. Suh-weet. Here is a picture from a good angle. You can see the leaves of the Deborah Maple in the front yard and the grass looks pretty good. Once we deal with the erosion problem and lack of grass on the hillsides of the front lawn I'll take a real picture. For now all you get is one that makes it look really nice.

Definitely calling Al this week to till the garden up -- and the weekend of the 19th will be the beginning of the planting. It will likely continue until the first weekend in June, when my folks will be here. Yay!
And here is a blurry shot of the grape hyacinth growing in my flower bed. I have some daisies and irises coming up as well, but these are just so .... cute. Definitely a happy little plant for me.

The weekend of the 19th we will have houseguests ... Rob's mom and his sister and her family. That will be fun -- I called the butcher shop looking for tri-tips to grill that Saturday night and A) they didn't have any in B) they will probably be getting some in this week but C) I need to get there quick because they are hard to get. (Because they are all getting shipped to California.) People have not caught on to the tri-tip craze here. At $3 a gallon for gas I doubt I'll be driving to Edina to hit Trader Joe's for the tri-tip. Man. Just one more thing I miss about California. (Have I mentioned I really miss Francisco Gardeners? I loved those guys. Seriously. Could have really used their help today.)
Sigh.

  1. Your yard looks like it is in some need of some wildlife. Would you care for a lovely squirrel???
