A plea

to my husband's family.

STOP CALLING ME JEN. MY NAME IS JENNIFER. TWO EXTRA SYLLABLES WON'T KILL YOU. IF YOU CAN'T DO MORE THAN ONE SYLLABLE, THEN CALL ME BITCH. JUST DON'T FREAKIN' CALL ME JEN.

I HATE IT.

Thank you for your time.

  1. That's how I feel about the name Kris. Its a boy's name and I hate being called that.

  2. If you actually looked like a Jen*, then I would probably call you that. But you don't.

I have similar feelings about diminutives of my own name.

    *I know a lot of Jen's and Jenny"s (even Jenni's, Jeni's and Jennie's too...also several Jenna's) and you are a Jennifer. The end.

  3. Yeah, I have name issues too. So much so that I changed my name. My father in law's mother so dominated his (and his wife's) life that my mother in law calls us and the children exactly what we want, and even asks if she's sweeping the floor OK or washing the table OK for me. It's nice.

  4. I have to say, I love the name Jennifer, so I wasn't happy when my daughters schoolmates started calling her Jen. There were two other Jennifers in her class, though, so I guess it was inevitable. The thing is, she still uses it, even though those schoolday Jennifers aren't in the picture any more. Oh, well. So now I call her Jen, Jenny, or Jennifer as the mood strikes. You, however, will always be a Jennifer to me.

    I can't remember if I ever called you Jen, but if I did . . . sorry!

  6. This is a lesson I learned along time ago. :)

But, I have other friends named Jennifer who are as fierce the other way, so please understand when we mere mortals get confused.

But, I get it. I am not Terri either. Seriously, that isn't even close to my name and people call me that. I like don't even know they are talking to me.
