Merry Christmas

On a day when everyone wants to be with family, I am thinking about all the troops overseas. When I was in the Army, we consoled each other with, "It's just another day," but we all felt a pull toward home at Christmas.

As you sit down to eat dinner or open gifts with your family, or as you celebrate with friends gathered around you, please remember the troops all over the world who are not sharing laughter and good cheer with their families.

Now, don't get me wrong, they are not entirely miserable. They will find a way to make the most of the day, trust me. Military types are creative and full of ingenuity -- they will band together and make the most of the situation they're in. But they will be missing home, and their families at home will be thinking of them every minute.

Say a prayer to keep them all safe, to bring them home quickly, that they and their families will find a way to feel close even though they are far apart this year.

Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukkah, Happy Kwanzaa, and Blessed Be.
