Productive Saturday

Got some old sloppy clothes cleared out of the dresser and the closet today (why do I keep stuff I know I won't wear anymore?) Some went into the trash, others off to the Goodwill. A few weeks ago Rob took me to Avenue (my absolute favorite clothing store) because I was desperate for jeans. I had one pair that was threadbare in the inner thigh/crotch area. Yeah, classy. And another pair with metal shank buttons that required me to sew them on after I wore them. Dang things had a habit of popping off while I was wearing them because the metal shank just cut right through the thread. Annoying.

Anyway, I found several pairs of jeans and a number of cute tops and sweaters. Eight pieces for about $150, so a pretty good deal. And I went to the fabric store and looked in the notions department and found metal jeans buttons -- the kind that you have to hammer together (like overall buttons). Turns out they work great as a replacement for the metal shank buttons, so now I have one more pair of jeans to wear.

Of course, Avenue's sizes start at 14 and go up -- and I am losing weight, as I've mentioned. I am in the smallest size shirts now, 14/16. And I am in a 16 or 18 in jeans, depending on the fit. I actually tried on a 14 in one pair of jeans because the 16 was HUGE on me, but the cut was not meant for my body, as the 14 was laughable. Couldn't even pull them up all the way. Odd. I don't mean to complain, but I LOVE Avenue and I think it's hard to find cute clothes in the larger sizes at a lot of "regular" clothing stores. I'm not there yet, but if I get there, where should I be shopping? Again, odd to be thinking like that.

After cleaning out the closet we hit the Y for a while. Rob got a workout. I am a little stiff and sore from the mammo yesterday (they warned me I might be) so I hung out in the pool area and read my Kindle while the boys swam. Very nice. I am liking that little gadget more every day.

Home again then, where I got to work on laundry and my sewing project. Yes, the apron. Again. It is done with the exception of the neck strap, which is bias cut and I am unprepared to face that tonight. Tomorrow, maybe. I also hemmed a couple of pairs of cut off jeans for the boys (go me) and I think I can get through the remainder of my mending by week's end. That would be a nice thing to cross off the list.

So, nothing exciting or momentous, except I feel sort of normal. In a weird I-didn't-expect-to-feel-like-this way and I-forgot-what-this-felt-like way.

  2. It's always good to clean the closets. It's those kitchen cupboards/drawers I have issues with. But I proudly state that I STILL do not have any orphaned lids to bowls/pans. And I have you to thank for that. lmao!!
