Twilight

If you haven't heard of the series of books by Stephenie Meyer by now, you must be living under a rock.

I am reading them now. Actually, I have read 3 of the books and I am in the middle of #4 right now. They are young adult novels but I know a LOT of women who have read them.

Basically they are about a girl who falls in love with a vampire. Only the vampires in this book bear little resemblance to your average vampire legend or Dracula story. And to complicate matters, said girl has a (male) best friend who has some, errr, issues of his own.

I'll just say that most of the women are in love with the vampire, Edward Cullen. I, however, have decided that I prefer the best friend, Jacob.

The writing isn't great but I have to admit the story is compelling. So compelling, in fact, that I am tearing through these relatively thick books in just a few hours each.

And so compelling that I am going now to get through another hundred pages or so before I go to bed.

  1. The writing isn't great but the story is compelling is how I felt about Da Vinci Code. I figure I'd probably enjoy the Twilight books, I should consider getting my name on the long hold list at the lib.

Also...did you know? Edward Cullen is the Catholic bishop of Allentown, PA.

  2. My niece Meg (15) has seen the movie a ton and is also tearing thru the books...which in my opinion is great since any person tearing gorging on books is a good thing. My sister has /is reading the books too.

I have considered picking them up, but haven't because I've been finishing "The Man Who Ate Everything" which is AWESOME.

  3. I did not like #4 because nothing that I wanted to happen worked out :(
I am not a fan of Edward. My feeling is they tried to "humanize" the vampires too much and by the end, they resembled Super-heroes. Plus by now I am sure you know that she does not choose Jacob. wahhhhhh!!!
Glad I read them, but the series doesn't hold a candle to Harry Potter (in my book anyway!)

I agree with you, the writing isn't the greatest, but the story keeps you going. I love seeing more and more people into them!

  5. I love Alice. She is my favorite character of all.

I have read the whole series and the fourth book is a little on the gross for me.

  8. I am a Team Jacob girl too, Jennifer!
There is something about the "coldness" of Edward that really freaks me out. Give me warmth anyday!
